Louisiana Jam Cocktail served in a Jam Jar

The Louisiana Jam

My new favorite cocktail! A touch of Southern charm with a bit of a kick. This makes a lovely winter cocktail, and I am sure that it is going to be lovely in the summer too!

Ingredients:
35ml Southern Comfort
20ml lemon juice
20ml apple juice
2 teaspoons of apricot jam
8 mint leaves
15ml sugar syrup

Method:

Place mint leaves into a clean, empty jam jar and gently muddle. Add the remaining ingredients into the jam jar and half fill with crushed ice, put the lid on and shake vigorously. Remove the lid and top up with crushed ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge and a sprig of mint.

That’s the official recipe. I leave out the sugar syrup and add 3 drops of Angostura Bitters as otherwise I find it a little too sweet. The bitters are an authentic southern addition, use either Angostura or Peynard Bitters if you can get them. You can either serve as is, or I like to top up with a little soda water. This makes it a more refreshing long drink.

It all sounds very odd, but it really is damn fine. Enjoy! Next time you are in London you really must come to our place where it is ALWAYS cocktail hour!
